jfid – TikTok Shop, the China-based e-commerce platform integrated with the short-video app TikTok, is reportedly set to resume operations in Indonesia after being temporarily shut down in October 2023.

This development is tied to TikTok’s investment plan in one of the GoTo Group units, namely Tokopedia, one of Indonesia’s largest e-commerce platforms.

According to Bloomberg reports, TikTok is in negotiations to invest in Tokopedia and collaborate on online shopping services.

Sources suggest that this investment could take the form of a joint venture between Tokopedia and TikTok Shop. However, both TikTok and Tokopedia have yet to release an official statement or response regarding this matter.

Considered a win-win solution for both parties, this move comes as a response to the increasing challenges in e-commerce through social media, following recent regulations from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade prohibiting e-commerce transactions on social media.
