Between Admiration and Concern: Public Response to the Volcanic Eruption in Iceland

Iceland, a small country at the northern edge of Europe, is known as the land of fire and ice. Here, volcanoes and glaciers coexist, creating spectacular and challenging natural landscapes.

However, behind this beauty lies the hidden potential for disasters that threaten human and animal life.

On Monday, December 18, 2023, a volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 30 km from the capital Reykjavik, erupted after experiencing repeated earthquakes for several weeks.

This eruption marks the third in the past two years in the region, following those in March 2021 and August 2022.

The recent eruption released flowing lava, forming a glowing red river at night, along with smoke and ash billowing high into the sky. The sounds of explosions and rumblings were heard for tens of kilometers.

This phenomenon attracted the attention of many people, both locals and tourists, who flocked to the eruption site to witness this rare natural wonder.
