jfid – Sidoarjo – A video showing the conditions of Rohingya refugees living in Rusun Puspa Agro, Jemundo Village, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, went viral on social media. The video was uploaded by the Instagram account @fakta.indo on April 5, 2023.

In the video, Rohingya refugees are seen receiving housing facilities, healthcare, education, and financial aid from the Indonesian government through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The video sparked various comments from netizens, with a majority criticizing the provision of these facilities to Rohingya refugees, while some sympathized and appreciated Indonesia’s humanitarian efforts.

Some netizens also compared the conditions of Rohingya refugees with those of indigenous Indonesians living in poverty and hardship.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the percentage of poor people in Indonesia in March 2022 was 9.54%, a decrease of 0.17 percentage points compared to September 2021 and a decrease of 0.60 percentage points compared to March 2021.

The number of poor people in March 2022 was 26.16 million, a decrease of 0.34 million compared to September 2021 and a decrease of 1.38 million compared to March 2021.
