TNBTS also boasts savannahs, forests, lakes, waterfalls, crater lakes, and other fascinating natural phenomena worth visiting.
It’s home to 118 bird species, 18 mammal species, 11 reptile species, and 14 insect species, most of which hold high conservation value. Some endemic species found in TNBTS include the Javan banteng (Bos javanicus), sambar deer (Cervus unicolor), Javan lutung (Trachypithecus auratus), Javan hawk-eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi), and Javan trogon (Apalopteron familiare).
The area also holds significant cultural value due to the presence of the Tengger indigenous community, who strongly adhere to their ancestral traditions and beliefs. The Tengger people are known for their friendliness, religiousness, and high regard for local wisdom.
One famous traditional ritual is the Yadnya Kasada ceremony, a ritual offering to the gods atop Mount Bromo.
