Spectacular Natural Phenomenon: First Volcanic Eruption in Iceland in 800 Years

The volcanic eruption in Iceland has also caught the attention of scientists who want to study its processes and impacts further.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO), the eruption is caused by a long magma flow beneath the surface, connected to the Fagradalsfjall volcano. This magma pushes the Earth’s crust, causing frequent earthquakes on the Reykjanes Peninsula since October.

Scientists also state that this eruption is part of a geological cycle that occurs every 800-1,000 years in the region, known as the Reykjanes active period. During this time, magma can emerge in various locations along the peninsula, forming new volcanoes.

Therefore, scientists warn that this eruption could last for weeks, months, or even years, and it could be followed by other eruptions in different locations.

Although this volcanic eruption is not harmful to humans, there are still risks to be wary of, such as air pollution, disruptions to air traffic, and infrastructure damage.
