jfid – Indonesia is a country that often experiences earthquakes.

This is due to Indonesia’s geographical location at the meeting point of three major tectonic plates, namely the Eurasian plate, the Indo-Australian plate, and the Pacific plate.

When these plates rub against each other, press, or move away, there is a movement of the earth called an earthquake.

In the last 24 hours, Indonesia has experienced 10 earthquakes with magnitudes above 2 and up to 5.1.

The strongest earthquake occurred in Singaparna, West Java, with a magnitude of 5.1 and a depth of 71 km.

This earthquake was felt by residents around the location, but it did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

Other earthquakes occurred in various regions in Indonesia, such as North Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, West Nusa Tenggara, Aceh, Papua, and others.

Earthquakes that occur in Indonesia not only impact physical damage but also psychological trauma for the community that experiences it.

Many people feel scared, anxious, stressed, or depressed after experiencing an earthquake.

Therefore, it is important for the community to have preparedness in dealing with earthquakes, both before, during, and after the earthquake occurs.

Before an earthquake occurs, the community must know the condition of their house and the surrounding environment, whether it is safe or not from the threat of an earthquake.

If it is not safe, then it is better to make repairs or strengthen the structure of the building.

In addition, the community must also prepare emergency supplies, such as medicines, clean water, food, flashlights, radios, and others.

The community must also know the evacuation route and a safe shelter if an earthquake occurs.

When an earthquake occurs, the community must remain calm and not panic.

If you are inside the house, then you should take shelter under a table or a strong place and stay away from windows, mirrors, cabinets, or objects that are easy to fall.

If you are outside the house, then you should stay away from buildings, trees, electricity poles, or objects that can collapse.

If you are inside a vehicle, then you should stop in a safe place and not get out of the vehicle.

After an earthquake occurs, the community must immediately check their own condition and the people around them.

If there are injuries, then you should provide first aid or contact medical personnel.

If there are people trapped under the rubble, then you should try to contact them or ask for help from the rescue team.

If there is a tsunami warning, then you should immediately evacuate to a higher place and away from the beach.

If there is no tsunami warning, then you should remain alert to the possibility of aftershocks.

Earthquakes are natural phenomena that cannot be predicted with certainty. However, by having preparedness, the community can reduce the negative impacts caused by earthquakes.

In addition, the community must also have good mental health to deal with the trauma that may be experienced due to earthquakes.

Thus, the community can live more calmly and comfortably in Indonesia, a country that is often shaken by earthquakes.
