This surprised many people, considering that Musk had previously been accused of promoting antisemitic content on his social media platform, X.
At the end of November 2023, Musk visited Israel to meet with the highest leaders of the country, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and President Isaac Herzog.
Musk also visited a kibbutz on the Gaza border, where he witnessed the impact of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Musk said that the purpose of his visit was to explore cooperation in the fields of technology, energy, and environment.
He also announced that his satellite-based internet service, Starlink, would support the establishment of communication links in Gaza, by connecting internationally recognized aid organizations.
However, not everyone welcomed Musk’s visit and statements. Some parties criticized Musk as an opportunist who only wanted to improve his image after being condemned for supporting antisemitic conspiracy theories on X.
In mid-November 2023, Musk agreed to a tweet that accused Jews of having “hatred for white people” and criticized the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization that fights against antisemitism.
Musk’s action drew strong reactions from various circles, including members of the US Congress, media, and human rights activists.
ADL itself denounced Musk as a “torchbearer” and said that his statements were very dangerous in the midst of rising cases of antisemitism in the US and around the world.
Musk himself defended himself by saying that he did not intend to offend anyone and that he opposed racism in any form.
He also claimed that he had a good relationship with the Jewish community and Israel, and that he had donated money to build a Holocaust museum in Los Angeles.
But, is Musk really sincere in supporting Israel, or just looking for public sympathy? Does Musk have other motives behind his visit to Israel, such as expanding his business or avoiding regulation from the US government?
And does Musk really care about the fate of the people of Gaza, or just want to take advantage of the situation to promote his products?
