jfid – Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, successfully recovered globally on Thursday morning after experiencing disruptions that affected over 77,000 users in the United States during the peak of the slowdown.
Users in several countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and France, reported difficulties accessing X and X Pro, the former name for TweetDeck.
Data from Downdetector noted that over 7,000 users in Canada and the UK faced challenges using the platform. Downdetector itself tracks disruptions by summarizing status reports from various sources, including user reports.
As of the time of this report, the exact cause of the disruption, which began after 12:00 AM ET (0500 GMT), is still unknown. Attempts to contact X’s communication and support team via email have not received a response.
Users on the X platform, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, reported difficulties viewing posts with welcome messages appearing. Meanwhile, X Pro users experienced a “Waiting for posts” message.
This disruption adds uncertainty and changes to the platform following Musk’s $44 billion acquisition. The acquisition has triggered layoffs, including several engineers who were previously responsible for maintaining and preventing service disruptions, according to sources interviewed by Reuters.
In the face of this disruption, some users have turned to Threads, a competing app owned by Meta (META.O), to discuss and voice difficulties accessing posts, replies, and profiles on the X platform.
